Saber Interactive has announced Turok: Origins, pushed back its release to sometime in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
This title takes place before the older games in story and brings a rebooted take to the franchise as a co-op action game where players can swap between both first-person and third-person perspectives. The game has built in skill trees with a class based system to blast through hordes of prehistoric modified beasts and alien invaders.Whether you're a longtime fan of the series like I am or taking your first steps into the Lost Lands, the return of Turok marks a huge moment for gaming history. The franchise is legendary. Long before video games, Turok began as a 1950's comic book titled Turok: Son of Stone. The story followed Native American warriors who became trapped in a mysterious, isolated valley filled with dinosaurs. However, the franchise blew up in 1997 with the launch of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on the Nintendo 64. Developed by Iguana Entertainment, it became an instant classic. It spawned several hit sequels on the N64, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil and Turok 3: Shadows of Oblivion along with later entries like Turok: Evolution (2002) and a gritty 2008 reboot.Turok Origins PS5 Store description Play as the legendary warriors to face off against ferocious dinosaurs and a terrifying alien threat that seeks to destroy all human life in the galaxy. Console attempts were clunky, watered-down ports. Turok changed that trajectory overnight, proving that fast-paced, high-octane 3D shooters could thrive in the living room. Its impact on the genre came down to a few massive technical leaps:- Instead of flat corridors, Turok introduced massive, multi-tiered maps. Players could explore dense jungles, cavernous underground networks, and ancient temples with genuine verticality.- It pushed weapon design far beyond generic shotguns and pistols, unleashing absurd sci-fi firepower like the plasma rifle, nuclear cannons, and the devastating Chronosceptor.- Turok proved console FPS games didn't need to feel slow. It forced players to jump, swim, and climb dynamically while dodging fast-moving raptors and heavy artillery. Now, Turok: Origins is bringing the franchise back to its sci-fi roots. Equipped with modern graphics, co-op multiplayer, and deep suit customization, the original king of dinosaur shooters is finally ready to reclaim its crown.Which aspect of the classic Turok games are you most excited to see modernized in Origins?
