Getting sucked into the Time Portal
Putt-Putt Travels Through Time is a classic point-and-click adventure game designed for all ages, making it a very straightforward, stress-free experience for trophy hunting. You navigate scenes, pick up items, and interact with characters entirely by moving your curser and clicking on the screen. The Glove Compartment is your inventory. Any key items you pick up along your journey will be stored here. To use an item, simply click on your glove compartment, select the tool you need, and click it onto the character or puzzle object in the scene.
You will be traveling between four distinct time periods (the Dinosaurs, medieval times, the Wild West, and the Future). The core trick of the game is that an item found in one time period is almost always the solution to a puzzle in a completely different era.The most important thing to know before starting a run is that the locations of Putt-Putt's four missing items are randomized every single time you start a new game.Because of this, no two playthroughs are identical. For example, you might find Pep the dog in the prehistoric era on your first run, but a second playthrough might place him in the future. You will need to explore every era, talk to the local characters to see what they need, and trade items across time until you secure all four missing supplies.
Through the Ages
The Age of Dinosaurs (Prehistoric Era)A jungle filled with tar pits, volcanoes, and very big, friendly dinosaurs!Putt-Putt must navigate around sleepy Brachiosaur and bubbling tar pits. You'll help a giant Apatosaurus scratch an impossible itch, use a missing rock to fix a bridge for a friendly invention named Wheel, and have to play a rock-matching puzzle with a T-Rex to get one of his items back. Knights and Castles (Medieval Era)A land of grand castles, tournaments, wizards, and peasants. Everything is a little rustic and very regal!Putt-Putt enters a world of royalty! He'll meet the funny King Chariot, a wise sorcerer named Merlin, and a shy Princess Chassis. You will need to retrieve an item from a mischievous dragon, or help a blacksmith fix a broken wheel for a carriage, or even win a jousting tournament to access the castle courtyard.Cowboys and Trains (Western Frontier Era)A dusty frontier town with a saloon, a train station, and open desert. Watch out for tumbleweeds!Putt-Putt must become a Junior Conductor by helping Toby the Train get his engine oiled up. You'll explore a desert canyon, use clues to track animal paw prints, and visit the Gold River to pan for treasure with a prospector. An item may be hiding in an old mine or locked up at the train station.Robots and Flying Cars (Future Era)The final era unveils a hyper advanced metropolis defined by soaring skyways, intricate automated conveyor networks, and a thriving population of robotic citizens. Your journey through this futuristic world requires navigating the labyrinthine belts of a massive factory complex before heading to the Local Museum of Ancient History. To secure your essential school supply, you must retrieve a rare artifact from an earlier epoch.
Trophy Tips
Detailed notes for each trophy covered in this guide.
It Goes On Forever
Listen to the hourglass, clock, sundial and split-flap radio sing a song about the four doors.
This miscellaneous trophy is earned in the central Time Continuum hub area right after Mr. Firebird’s portal accidentally sucks in Putt-Putt's items.Once the opening mishap scatters your four school supplies across the space-time continuum, Putt-Putt drives straight into the vortex and lands in a psychedelic blue void. This area acts as your primary hub, complete with four floating doors that lead to different historical eras. Before jumping through a portal to begin your hunt, for your school stuff look at the four time-related objects drifting in the corner an Hourglass, a large traditional Clock, a Sundial, and a retro Split-Flap Radio.Click on the four floating objects. Once clicked, they will perform a short, catchy song explaining time travel and the four temporal doors.
Bridge Constructor
Fix the bridge in prehistoric times by adding the missing piece.
Story
To begin your journey through time, navigate the blue void of the Time Continuum and choose the far-left portal to send Putt-Putt straight to the Mesozoic Era. Upon arrival, a massive obstacle blocks the main road. Steer Putt-Putt to the left to investigate, where you will find the tail of a friendly dinosaur named Ms. Brachiosaurus. Talk to her, and she will happily move her tail out of the way to clear the road. Before driving down the newly opened path, search the ground nearby for a Circle Rock and add it to your inventory (note that its precise spawn location can vary slightly between playthroughs). With the road clear, head right down the trail toward the local chasm. Keep an eye on the ground along the way to pick up another collectible, the Pentagon Rock. Continuing forward brings you to a stranded rolling vehicle named Wheel, who is stuck in front of a rickety wooden bridge spanning a bubbling tar pit. Inspecting Wheel or the bridge reveals that a vital wooden plank is missing, leaving behind a distinctly shaped geometric gap.Repairing this crossing is the primary puzzle of this era, and the missing piece is always one of four geometric shape rocks scattered throughout the game. Depending on your seed's random generation, the bridge will require:Circle Rock: Found near Ms. BrachiosaurusPentagon Rock: Found on the path leading to the bridgeTriangle Rock: Hidden in the Old West eraRectangular Rock: Tucked away in the Medieval eraBecause you already collected the Circle and Pentagon rocks on your way in, open your inventory and test them first. Select the rock that matches the shape of the gap and place it into the bridge. Putt-Putt and Wheel will lock it into position, fully repairing the crossing and opening two new paths deeper into the prehistoric jungle.
Driving Down Dino Lane
Go on a dinosaur's back and rub his itchy spot.
Story
Once you have repaired the tar pit bridge and unlocked the deeper paths of the Age of Dinosaurs, cross over the newly placed stone plank to reach a fork in the road. Steer Putt-Putt down the left path to find a massive, long-necked Apatosaurus. If you stop to talk with him, the giant reptile will complain about a terrible, agonizing itch in the dead center of his back that his short limbs simply cannot reach. To help him out, drive directly up to his side and click on his back, prompting Putt-Putt to roll onto his textured hide to begin a short, interactive navigation minigame. The Apatosaurus will call out a sequence of four directions one after another such as Go left... then up... then right... and finally down!" Listen closely to his verbal cues and follow the instructions exactly by clicking the corresponding directional arrows on your screen. When Putt-Putt lands squarely on the itchy spot, the Apatosaurus will sigh with massive relief, thank you for your help, and gratefully lower his neck to the ground. This permanently transforms his body into a brand-new ramp that allows you to drive up and access the elevated Pterodactyl Nest area.
Fancy Carriage
Help fix Woodward's broken wheel in the medieval ages.
Story
Navigate through the regal paths of the Medieval era until you stumble upon a broken carriage. Its driver, Woodward, is completely stuck because a wheel has snapped off his axle. Click directly on the broken wheel to deposit it safely into your dashboard inventory. From there, head across the castle drawbridge or into the nearby courtyard to track down the local blacksmith. When you hand him the damaged part, he agrees to fix it, but explains that his forge is currently cold and requires fuel before he can get to work.To heat up the forge, search the kingdom for the local coal bunker, which typically spawns near the dragon's lair or by the main castle gates. Collect a fresh supply of coal and haul it straight back to the smithy. Hand the coal over, and the blacksmith will immediately fire up his forge to hammer the wheel back into shape.Grab the repaired wheel off the anvil, return to Woodward's stranded carriage, and select the shiny replacement part from your inventory to mount it onto the empty axle. Grateful for your chivalry, the driver will thank you and clear another essential puzzle from your quest log.
Junior Conductor
Help the train using an oil can in the old west and earn your first junior conductor pay.
Story
Navigate through the dusty trails of the Old West until you hit the local train station. Resting on the tracks, you'll find Toby the Train, who is stuck in place and desperately needs a few maintenance supplies to get his engine chugging again. To get him moving, your top priority is tracking down a misplaced Oil Can. Because its location is completely randomized with each playthrough, you'll need to scout the frontier checking the shelves inside the General Store, searching the grounds near the barn and corral, or scanning the dirt out by the desert mine. Once you spot it, click the Oil Can to drop it into your glove compartment. While Toby always requires oil, he usually needs help with one or two other resource tasks before he can leave the station:Most commonly, he will need water from the depot's water tower. To fill his tank, locate a Rope typically found hanging on a nearby fence line or sitting inside the General Store and use it on the water tower's spigot lever to pull down the line.On some playthrough seeds, Toby might also ask for a fresh stack of wood, which you can scoop up from the logs resting near the station platform or the barn.Once you return to the tracks, open your inventory and click the Oil Can onto Toby's rusty wheels and engine parts, followed by any water or wood he requested. With his maintenance needs met, Toby's boiler will roar back to life. To show his gratitude, he'll officially declare you a Junior Conductor, reward you with a shiny Nickel, and offer free train rides to the distant corners of the Old West map, making the rest of your school supply hunt significantly faster.
You Spin Me Road
Turn the conveyor belt around and travel further into the future.
Story
To explore the Distant Future metropolis, head to the main road dominated by a long, one-way conveyor belt. When you first arrive, the belt is running in reverse, blocking Putt-Putt from driving into the city.Look for the conveyor belt control panel mounted on a nearby beam or right alongside the track.Click the control panel to open the interface.Experiment with the buttons to figure out the correct sequence.Keep adjusting the pattern until all the red lights turn green.Once solved, the conveyor belt will stop and reverse direction, allowing Putt-Putt to ride it straight into the city.
Paint-O-Rama 3000
Change your color in the Paint-O-Rama 3000 in the distant future.
Before you can repaint Putt-Putt, make sure you have already solved the conveyor belt puzzle to enter the inner city.Once on the high-tech streets, look for Miss Electra's Toy Shop and drive straight into the Paint-O-Rama 3000 machine to open the customization screen.Open the color menu, which has 18 total options (6 colors with 3 brightness levels). Pick any color combination that is different from Putt-Putt's default purple.Lock in your choice to spray the new coat of paint and pop the trophy. You can return to the shop and change your paint job as many times as you want throughout the game.
Putt Putt, Time Traveler Extraordinaire
Recover Pep, Putt Putt's History report, his calculator and the Smokey the Fire Engine Lunchbox from Mr Firebirds Time Portal.
Story
Putt-Putt Travels Through Time randomly scatters your four missing school supplies with every new seed, a strict step-by-step walkthrough won't work. Instead, beating the game comes down to cross-era trading. Each time period Dinosaur Age, Medieval Times, Old West, and Distant Future holds exactly one missing item. To get them, explore every world, grab every loose item you see (like shape rocks or oil cans), and talk to locals to learn what they need. The main trick is that a puzzle's solution is almost always hidden in another era:Needs the Oil Can found in the Old West.Needs a Shape Rock that might spawn in the Medieval era or the Future.Needs supplies from around the Old West to give you a Nickel or essential quest item.Every major puzzle you solve rewards you with one of your four lost items (Pep, History Report, Calculator, or Lunchbox).Once all four supplies are back in your inventory, return to the Time Continuum hub. Putt-Putt will automatically warp back to Mr. Firebird's lab, closing the portal.
