Mode: LASO (Legendary All Skulls On)
Active Skulls: 17 Total (Unlockable by collecting hidden skulls in campaign)
Core Mechanics: Disables Sprint (Speed Limit), Punishes Reloads (Johnny Ammo Seed), Removes Auto-Aim (Eye Patch), and Causes Flood to Explode on Critical Hits (Pop).
1. Essential Mechanics & Survival Rules
"Black Eye" Shield Restoration
Since shields never recharge automatically, you must rely entirely on melee attacks to restore shield power.
In any major firefight, leave one weak Grunt or minor Jackal alive at the end. Stun or flank them, then deliver a melee strike to bring your shields back to 100%.
Managing "Johnny Ammo Seed" & Reloading
Discarding a magazine with rounds remaining completely destroys that unused ammo.
Never trigger a manual reload on high-capacity weapons (like the Assault Rifle or SMG) mid-clip unless you are fully dry.
Weapons that load round-by-round (like the Shotgun) or plasma weapons with battery percentages are your safest picks to avoid wasted ammo.
Master "Pop" & "Grunt Funeral"
Shooting Flood spore/weak points causes them to explode (Pop), while Grunts drop live plasma grenades upon death (Grunt Funeral).
Combine these with Boom (2x explosion radius) to chain-react entire rooms from a safe distance.
Because sprint is disabled by Speed Limit, you cannot sprint away from a chain reaction. Always detonate Grunts or Flood from maximum engagement distance.
2. Checkpoint Safety & Exploits
The Iron skull resets your entire mission progress upon death in Solo mode.
The moment you take lethal damage or know you cannot survive, instantly pause the game and select Save & Quit or reload checkpoint. When you resume from the main menu, you will load right back at your previous checkpoint.
Co-Op "Leapfrog" Method
In 4-player co-op, a single player's death reverts the entire team to the last checkpoint.
Have 1–2 designated clearers push ahead while the remaining team members stay anchored in cover behind a door in a cleared room. Once the next room is secure, the anchors move up.
Operation METEORITE (LASO Strategy Guide)
Missions: Boarding Action, The Most Dangerous Game, Heavy Burden
Mode: LASO (Legendary All Skulls On)
Primary Threat: High-tier Covenant forces (Sacristan Order warriors, Ultra Elites, Hunters) without Flood interference.
Key Challenge: Extremely tight corridor chokepoints on the Covenant vessel combined with zero auto-aim (Eye Patch) and penalty-heavy reload mechanics (Johnny Ammo Seed).
Unlike the main campaign's open outdoor terrain, Operation METEORITE takes place almost entirely within cramped Covenant interiors and closed habitat domes. Your LASO tactics must adjust accordingly:
1. Corridor Chokepoint Funneling (Boarding Action)
Narrow ship hallways mean Covenant plasma fire is almost impossible to dodge. Instead of pushing forward, provoke the Elites, backtrack around a corner, and force them into a bottle-neck.
With Boom and Grunt Funeral active, throw a single Plasma Grenade at the doorway threshold as Grunts rush through. The exploding drop-weapons will clear the entire corridor behind them.
2. Managing Habitat Domes (The Most Dangerous Game)
The habitat domes feature long lines of sight with elevated platforms. Since Eye Patch disables auto-aim, avoid long-range sniper duels against Jackal Snipers and Sacristan warriors.
Isolate single Grunts on lower walkways before clearing high platforms to ensure you have a "shield battery" available for a melee recharge (Black Eye).
3. Space Dogfight Survival (Heavy Burden)
The Longsword flight/combat section during Heavy Burden can be brutal on LASO due to increased enemy damage and physics impulses.
Do not dive straight into Covenant fighter clusters. Circle the outer edge of the debris field, use ship wreckage as physical cover, and pick off enemy Seraphs from long range before approaching the primary cruiser target.
Recommended Loadout & Execution Rules
Shotgun / Energy Sword and perfect anti-Flood weapons. A melee strike with either instantly recharges your shield while deleting incoming forms.
Overcharged Plasma Pistol + Precision Rifle are essential for stripping Ultra and Sacristan Elite shields in single-file hallways before landing manual headshots.
Standard Plasma Pistol overcharges chew through shields. Switching to the newly added Needle Rifle lets you land 3-needle supercombos on unshielded Brutes or Elites at range, bypassing their Mythic-buffed health pools completely.
Plasma weapons do not suffer from the magazine-dump penalty of Johnny Ammo Seed. Swap to fresh plasma rifles off dead Elites to maintain high firepower without wasting ammo.
Take advantage of Johnson's indestructible AI state during infantry sections let him draw initial Covenant aggro before peeking out to land headshots.
Flood Eradicator, Sentinel Beam + Plasma Grenades the high tick-rate of the Sentinel Beam triggers the Pop skull instantly on Flood spores and carrier forms. Melt the lead carrier, trigger the Boom explosion, and walk away while the chain reaction clears the corridor. Shotgun / Energy Sword are perfect anti-Flood weapons if careful. A melee strike with either instantly recharges your shield while deleting incoming forms.
Mission Tips/Skips (Will continue to update as more are found)
The Pillar of Autumn - You can run past the first breach ship of Covenant, progress to the next enemy set, kill them and backtrack to get full overshield plus a spar with no enemies.
Halo - Ram enemies to kill and clear, it has a crazy amount of health.
The Truth and Reconciliation -
The Silent Cartographer - Ramp skip from the og Halo still works. After getting inside the main building drop off the edge and try to land on the slop of the ramp. In co-op (now supporting up to 4 players), position a 4-seater Warthog sideways in narrow facility chokepoints. Using the vehicle as a mobile barrier bottlenecks zealot pushes into a single kill-zone for plasma grenades.
Assault on the Control Room - While low-level geometry clips are gone, you can still hijack the landing pad Banshee early. Fly directly along the top ceiling skybox boundary to trigger loading zones without rendering the ground-level Wrath and Shade turret encounters.
Operation: METEORITE (Missions 1 - 3)
In the new prequel levels, use Brute Plasma Rifles or Plasma Grenade stun-locks on Sacristan enemies before closing in with a melee to recharge shields.
In Mission 2 (Shipboard Infiltration), skip the upper deck firefight by using plasma boosts off the maintenance crates to jump straight into the ceiling ventilation conduits.
