After rumors of ports for Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 were circulating around the internet in early June, Treyarch put the rumors to making a post nine days later, confirming that these ports are real and will be released in July. Despite these titles being beloved by Call of Duty Fans, there are mixed opinions about how these ports will be handled.

The Origin of the Rumors
On June 8th, 2026, an X (formally known as Twitter) known as @PlaystationSize, whose content consists of posting reviews and PlayStation Database updates, has made an interesting post that caught the eyes of thousands worldwide. The post read "Call of Duty®: Black Ops" and "Call of Duty®: Black Ops II", with attachments beneath the post with the icons of each game.
PlayStation Game Size's X Post reveals the Game Sizes for COD Titles
The reason why many players were drawn to this post in particular is that their content consists of reviews, but also download sizes for upcoming releases to PlayStation, meaning the implication of this specific post that readers gathered is that Call of Duty®: Black Ops and Call of Duty®: Black Ops II would be releasing on the PlayStation Store for modern consoles. Within a couple of hours, this post would get traction online with other X users such as @charlieINTEL, covering additional findings which included the exact file size for each game, courtesy of @ForwardLeaks. The momentum would grow even further as well-known Call of Duty Zombie YouTubers such as TheGamingRevolution, MrDalekJD, and MrTLexify would each make their own videos discussing the post and what this means for PlayStation, as well as other Call of Duty® games that could be ported over in the future.
Treyarch's Official Announcement
On June 17th, 2026, just nine days after the post from 'PlayStation Game Size' regarding the Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2, Treyarch would make another post one hour after their prior post about their new Intro Cinematic for their upcoming zombie map, "Kowakujō". This next post from Treyarch would end up being the third most liked official Call of Duty post across all of their official studio platforms. This post would officially state that both Call of Duty®: Black Ops and Call of Duty®: Black Ops II will be ported to PlayStation sometime in July, with their partners at Iron Galaxy Studios helping with the development. In a follow-up comment to their initial post, Treyarch would clarify that both games will include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies for the full experience. As of June 25th, 2026, the announcement post has amassed over 30 Million Views and 40,000 Reposts on X.

With these Call of Duty classic titles releasing on modern hardware, PlayStation players share their excitement by sharing iconic screenshots from the game and gifs showcasing anticipation for these releases.
The Price Update and Mixed Opinions
Although there has been no price officially announced for the PlayStation ports, players are still eager for their release and would be willing to purchase them if given the chance. Despite the enthusiasm for the ports, @charlieINTEL would make a post that would divide players' perspectives of the upcoming ports. On June 19th, 2026, two days after Treyarch had announced the Ports, CharlieIntel would create a post that discussed the store updates that happened for Xbox and PC, which revolved around Call of Duty®: Black Ops and Call of Duty®: Black Ops II stating the following:
Black Ops and Black Ops 2 on PC and Xbox got some store updates today: Base game is $40 each Individual DLCs is $10 (previously $15) Season Pass is $30 (previously $50) MTX Camos Personalization Packs are now free This could be how PlayStation ports are priced too.
CharlieIntel's X post discussing the store updates
The new price update on the store causes players some concern, especially with the final sentence of the post: "This could be how PlayStation ports are priced too". If these prices apply to the upcoming PlayStation ports, that would mean the cost of purchasing both games with their dedicated Season Passes would cost $140 USD (not including Tax). While the 'Camo Personalization Packs' are free, paying $70 USD for each game and Season Pass is a substancial amount of money for games over a decade old. This has caused players to have two different mindsets regarding the pricing. The first mindset is genuine disappointment that these old games are being charged equally to a brand new PS5 title, and should be much cheaper. The second mindset is that the price does not bother them, as Call of Duty players on the modern COD games have spent similar funds on cosmetics and Battle Passes, such as the BlackCell (Season 4) Battle Pass Bundle in Call of Duty®: Black Ops 7 listed at $29.99 USD.

The other factor of these ports is the platforms outside of PlayStation, specifically Xbox and PC. While PlayStation will have a new port, with separate dedicated servers using the PS4, the other platforms are currently stuck with using the older iterations of those games from the Xbox 360 and original Steam release of the games. However, playing these versions in 2026 on an Xbox/PC is a massive risk as these older titles are notorious for being swarmed with hackers, which can send DDOS attacks to individual players and manipulate the entire lobby, giving themselves invincibility, aimbot, and numerous other cheats. If some players are achievement hunters, they will also be negatively affected by this, as these hackers can also autopop all trophies for other players, which was the case for players on Call of Duty®: Black Ops II. While PlayStation users will get to experience these classic titles without many hackers roaming around from match to match, Xbox and PC users will be stuck playing on these older iterations, riddled with hackers and a constant risk to their accounts and personal information. There is no exact release date for these ports, outside of the month, so there is time for anything to change, from the prices to the potential of updated ports on other platforms outside of PlayStation. The success of these titles and their reception is entirely up to the player base to determine. With Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 4 releasing 3 months after these ports release, it may provide enjoyment for players whilst waiting for the new entry in the Modern Warfare series to arrive.
